How To Ask For What You Want This Valentine’s Day

by Renee Greenland

]I’m not one for getting sucked in to these special holidays . . . Valentine’s Day, St Patrick’s Day etc.

But after my post the other day on Instagram about needing a gentle reminder to tell my nine year old that he’s enough just as he is, I felt this upcoming Valentine’s Day is another gentle reminder for me to tell or show those that I care about, how much I love them and how much they mean to me.

Before I get into things . . .

Have you heard of the 5 Love Languages?

There’s:

  1. Words of Affirmation
  2. Gifts
  3. Acts of Service
  4. Quality Time
  5. Physical Touch

My love language, for receiving love, is acts of service. For giving love, I’d say my love language is probably gift giving.

If you don’t know what your love language is, you can find out here!

Because my love language is service based, I really have to make a conscious effort to use words of affirmation or physical touch. Like, I have to constantly remind myself to tell people how I feel about them or what they mean to me . . . for those of my people that have words or touch as their love language obviously.

I have to remind myself to cuddle my boys or give them loving touches when I’m around them.

That post about Nate was a pure example of that . . . his love language, and what he needs as part of being a Projector, his Human Design energy type, is words. And words that celebrate who he is, not what he does!

Being conscious of someone else’s love language can have a massive impact on your relationship with them.

Phil likes to buy me gifts. Which I’m very grateful for . . . BUT I feel ungrateful when I receive them because actually, ‘I’d love it if you did [act of service] for me instead!’

So, I had an inspired idea yesterday, when I saw a post by Erin Claire Jones about ‘How To Love On Me As A [Energy Type]’ series.

Which I felt related to the love languages, in a way, too!

What if there was a Valentine’s Day Wish List where you could tick off how you’d actually like to receive love, from your partner or children?

Like this . . .

Brilliant, I know!

Side note: Let’s make Valentine’s Day a universal day of celebrating love . . . a day where we give love, in all forms, to all those we love. Get our kids on board too! Oh, and to celebrate love without this need to spend lots of money or feel bad if you don’t receive lavish gifts or secret love notes.

AND what about simple cards that love on the human design energy types too?

  • For a Generator: a card that remind’s them how good they feel to be around.
  • For a Reflector: a card that remind’s them of their uniqueness and value.
  • For a Manifestor: a card that reminds them of their impact in the world.
  • For a Projector: a card that reflects how seen they make you feel.
  • For a Manifesting Generator: a card that reminds them how uplifting their energy is.

I couldn’t help myself and put this free card printable together for you. The messages on the cards are inspired by the human design energy types.

But you can use them for anyone, as all the messages exude love!

You get your hands on the Wish List and the cards here:

Let’s keep expressing our love simple!

Happy Valentine’s Day my friend,
